In Matthew chapter 16 we will take a short journey in search of truth.  We will find here a simple declaration of two great truths; I dare say that these two truths are the most important answers to the most important questions you will face in your entire life.  But before we get there we examine the place of signs in our quest for truth.  Does God use signs in directing our lives and what is the role of signs in our search for truth?

Notes: Matthew 15.32-39 Handout

The apostles appeared to be confused as they encounter a situation much like one recorded only a chapter earlier.  There was a large crowd, this time mostly Gentile, and they were without food to feed them.  Once again Jesus performs a great feeding miracle; once again he includes his disciples; once again he uses their resources to do it.  In these times of repetition we often learn what we fail to get the first time around.  And once again, we see that a life of showing compassion is the call of God for every Christian.

  2. Are The Miraculous Gifts for Today? Part 2

From time to time Matthew provides a summary paragraph describing the healing ministry of Jesus.  These passages bring us great knowledge of God and prepare us to answer one of the most difficult questions we face: How could a God both good and powerful allow so much suffering?  In addition, the healing ministry provokes us to compassionately minister to the sick in a way that glorifies God.  Is there a New Testament model for this kind of ministry?

Notes:A Dog’s Faith

Sometimes faith is found in the most unexpected of places and circumstances.  This was certainly the case with the Canaanite woman who cries to Jesus for help.  The faith of this Gentile “dog” is a powerful illustration that it is grace not race that allows access to the feet of Jesus.  And He welcomes us in to His home, not as a dog, but as an heir to the throne with an imperishable inheritance.
