The sixteenth century marked a dramatic and life changing shift in the Christian church, the Reformation. The thousand years leading up to the Reformation, known as the Dark Ages, saw an eclipse of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Ceremony, tradition, and papal authority overshadowed the Holy Scriptures as supreme authority. By God’s grace and providence a remnant of Christians challenged the dogmas of the medieval church and thus the Reformation was born. This six month overview of Reformed Theology will survey the five doctrines of grace as they have come to be known. This first teaching will survey church history from the death of Christ to the birth of the Reformation. It will answer the question, “Why was the church in need of reform,” and “Where did the 5 doctrines of grace come from?” SDG
